Graphic Novel
Honestly it was a tough way to find graphic novels through the Syracuse university online library. I ended up having to chat with a representative to have them help me out with finding graphic novels available through the online library. Finally, I was able to find a graphic novel I was looking for. Calvin and Hobbes was my pick as a graphic novel. To be fair I had to search up the definition of a graphic novel at the start of this assignment because I was not completely sure what described a graphic novel. Following my search, I decided that Calvin and Hobbes was considered a graphic novel so I began reading. Many of the scripts I read sent messages that were important for people to learn from such as "its not enough to change a few little habits! Everybody I know needs a complete personality overhaul" or "in the long term, it would make me happier to do well at school and become successful". These short phrases make a comic not only an entertaining tool but also one that makes you think about yourself and these messages. While it is true that many comics are given the name because of their comedy and humor it is important to consider that this is not all the genre provides a reader. All in all I had a great time reading this graphic novel because it kind of gave the course a fun thing to do while also having to treat it as an assignment. The genre is not all about the funny cartoons or the words but also about the storyline and the relationship the comic tries to make with the audience.
